Codes aligned with DHS m2a–m2n (ANC provider) and m3a–m3n (delivery attendant) series. The PS CRVS birth-attendant vocabulary covers physician, midwife, nurse, traditional_birth_attendant, other, and none; this vocabulary extends that set with auxiliary_midwife, community_health_worker, and relative for field-survey use.

doctor Doctor / Physician A licensed medical doctor (general practitioner or specialist). DHS m2a / m3a = 1. Classified as skilled.
nurse_midwife Nurse / Midwife A professionally trained nurse or midwife. DHS m2b / m3b = 1. Classified as skilled. In the DHS m2 series, m2b captures nurse/midwife as a combined category.
auxiliary_midwife Auxiliary Midwife / Auxiliary Nurse-Midwife A community-level auxiliary nurse-midwife or skilled birth attendant trained to conduct normal deliveries. Classified as skilled in many national skilled birth attendance definitions. DHS m2c / m3c = 1 in some country questionnaires.
community_health_worker Community Health Worker A trained community health worker, health extension worker, or village health volunteer who is not a formally qualified midwife. Not classified as skilled for SDG 3.1.2 purposes.
traditional_birth_attendant Traditional Birth Attendant A community member who assists with births based on traditional practice rather than formal medical training. DHS m3g = 1. Not classified as skilled.
relative Relative or Friend A family member, friend, or neighbor who assisted without health training. DHS m3h = 1. Not classified as skilled.
other Other Another category of provider or attendant not covered by the codes above.
none None / No attendant No provider or attendant was present. DHS m3n = 1. Unattended birth.
