Shared classification used by DHS (hv213) and MICS (HC3). No standalone international standard exists for floor materials; the survey programs are the de facto standard.

earth_sand Earth or sand Unpaved floor made of bare earth or sand.
dung Dung Floor finished with dung, a traditional material used in parts of sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.
wood_planks Wood planks Floor made of unpolished wood planks or boards.
palm_bamboo Palm or bamboo Floor made of woven or split palm fronds or bamboo.
parquet_polished_wood Parquet or polished wood Floor made of finished hardwood, parquet blocks, or polished wood boards.
vinyl_asphalt Vinyl or asphalt strips Floor covered with vinyl tiles, linoleum, or asphalt strips.
ceramic_tiles Ceramic tiles Floor covered with ceramic, porcelain, or similar fired clay tiles.
cement Cement Floor made of poured or troweled cement or concrete.
carpet Carpet Floor covered with carpet or fitted rugs.
other Other Floor material not covered by the other categories.
